You’re even given the option to romance particular characters, which can yield its own rewards. In true sandbox style, you can avoid the faction quests altogether and simply explore the town, meeting citizens, pick up side quests, take up fishing, gambling, and even gardening. With 10 different endings, including one true ending, players will feel motivated to head back in for multiple replays.

You can even act out your best Yojimbo fantasy and manipulate all three factions against each other to your own benefit. During the first encounter, the player can make several different decisions relating to how they interact with certain characters, who you choose to backstab, and which characters should bite the dust. Way of the Samurai 4 (PlayStation Network)įrom the outset, the game very much emphasizes openness with its gameplay. After intervening in a minor conflict, the player is swept up in a quest that will decide the fate of Amihama and all those who call it home. Clashes between different factions - the Japanese Shogunate, the isolationist forces of the Prajna, and foreigners from Britain - have turned the once quiet town into a place of mayhem and chaos. Set during the later years of the feudal era of Japan in the port town of Amihama, players take on the role of a wandering samurai, who enters town just when tensions have reached their boiling point. The fourth installment of the series, coming courtesy of XSEED games, seeks to return to its roots and provide a compelling experience for newcomers and fans alike. The open ended gameplay and emphasis on story turned many heads back with its original release in 2002.

*1x Life&Death sword is a must, but that is fairly easy. I could ramble a bit more about the Dojo or fishing, but I'll save it for later when it's not 4am. Since you don't actually need to do any* of that grind if you stick to easy/normal. 30 hours in so far so really take all above complaints with a grain of salt. Think I've hit almost all the bad endings soon, or at least I hope so. I'm still enjoying the game despite some weird design decisions in it. Blaaah.Īnyway aside from bitching about the supposed "end game" aka moving to the highest difficulty possible to loot more styles/swords. Just takes time and luck.Īfter that there is the engraving, which apparently can't be transferred from your current sword to the new ultimate one you just spent x amount of hours crafting.

Guess that's an intended option since it's free to do. Other option seems to be to find, say 10-20 copies of a sword you want to use and just constantly disassemble and re-forge it until you have 3 parts of the sword with the 3x charm you want. 3x Big Shot in a Basal Blade? Tough luck. Guess I could see myself doing it if I could freely just salvage everything I loot and when I finally find a 3x anything I could freely move it to any sword I want instead of it being stuck in that certain sword part. Man this charm and sword title system just doesn't seem fun at all. Also auto-targeting, as mentioned earlier in thread seems to sometimes break for reason or other. Sometimes loud and other times really quiet.
